Stay safe with the right weather app

New tech knowledge provided through natural disaster apps keeps households and communities safe with warnings and prep advice.

Most of these apps will give real time weather updates. However, in the cases of extreme storms, tornadoes, fires and more, some also have alerts.

Choosing a weather app for your region

Most weather apps use satellites to customize data for locations around the globe. Continue to check your app regularly to make sure it’s pulling in the right feed for your location.

Make sure it works with your device & service provider

Most newer weather apps will work with most service providers. However, it’s good to check app specifics in the app store. Some apps will work offline. If this is a characteristic you desire in an app, please read product descriptions before downloading.

Where does the app get its information?

It’s important the weather app chosen comes from a legitimate source. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides a weather app for real-time weather emergency alerts.

The FEMA app also provides warnings for critical hazard alerts, child abductions, civil risks and more.

Keeping the app up-to-date

Many weather applications use satellite maps to track weather data and stay automatically updated. If a move has been made, it’s important to check the app to make sure it has updated with the right location. This will ensure the data received is up-to-date and accurate.

If you would like to stay alert for severe weather, it’s important to do research. Doing research on the latest tech news can provide you with the latest severe weather alerts.
